The first ever Phagwara Chapter of the Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) 2015 was held at Kamla Nehru Public School from 4th December to 6th December 2015. A total of 145 delegates from different schools participated in the 5 committees. The inaugural ceremony was held on 4th December 2015, Mr. Rajinder Singh the Director General of Police was the chief Guest of the day. The student delegates participated in debate sessions across the two days under five Committees of IIMUN Phagwara Chapter, the Security Council (SC), Human Rights Commission (HRC), World Bank, International Press and Lok Sabha in which they deliberated on current political and social issues like Human Rights, status of women in the Arab world, smart cities in India etc. The general mode of conducting the sessions was the representation of various Countries and Ministers and Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha) by the delegates who were issued specially made Placards which contained the names of Countries which the delegates represented. The students had hands on experience on the working of world bodies like the Security Council and the legislative proceedings as carried out in the Lok Sabha. The three-day event of the IIMUN Phagwara Chapter concluded with the closing ceremony by the chief guest, Mr. I.K.Sardana President of School Managing Committee. The Principal Kamla Nehru Public School, Phagwara Ms. P.K.Dhillon, remarked that it is the matter of pride for the city of Phagwara to host such an event of high stature. She stated that this conference is shaping young students into wonderful communicators, channelizing their energy in the right direction.
